പന്താക്കല്ല് / Panthakkallu

വിഴിഞ്ഞം തുറമുഖ നിർമ്മാണത്തിന്റെ രണ്ടാം ഘട്ടം പൂർത്തിയാകുമ്പോൾ അതിന് ഏറെ അകലെയല്ലാത്ത ഇടത്താണ് ഈ പാരിന്റെ സ്ഥാനം. കൊച്ചുതുറ എന്ന ഗ്രാമത്തിനു നേരെ 15 മീറ്റർ ആഴമുള്ള കടലിലാണ് പന്താക്കല്ല് സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നത്.

FML ന്റെ പത്ത് വർഷത്തെ underwater documentation experience ൽ ഇത്രയേറെ fish diversity ഉള്ള പാര് കണ്ടെത്തുന്നത് ആദ്യമായാണ്. പൂവാർ സ്വദേശിയായ ഡേവിഡ്സൺ എന്ന കടൽപണിക്കാരൻ ആണ് ഇവിടേക്ക് എഫ് എം എല്ലിന് വഴികാട്ടിയത് .

വിഴിഞ്ഞം തുറമുഖ വികസനത്തിന്റെ ഭാഗമായി അധികം താമസിയാതെ ഒന്നുകിൽ കടലിലെ ഈ ജൈവ ഉറവ നശിപ്പിക്കപ്പെടുകയോ അല്ലെങ്കിൽ മീൻപിടുത്തം നിരോധിക്കപ്പെടുകയോ ചെയ്യാനിടയുണ്ട് എന്നാണ് ഈ മേഖലയിലെ കടൽ പണിക്കാർ ഭയപ്പെടുന്നത്.

ഈ പാരിൽ അല്പം പോലും പ്രേതവലകൾ (ghost nets) ഇല്ല എന്നത് ഇവിടുത്തെ തദ്ദേശ സമൂഹം ഈ ആവാസ ഇടം എത്ര കാര്യക്ഷമമായി പരിപാലിച്ചു വരുന്നു എന്നതിന്റെ ഉദാഹരണം കൂടിയാണ് .

Panthakkallu reef lies very close to the Vizhinjam seaport, which nears the second phase of completion. Panthakkallu is situated opposite the coastal village Kochuthura, at a depth of 15m under the sea.

In the 10 years of FML's underwater documentation, this reef holds the distinction of being the one with the most fish biodiversity.

Davidson, a fisher from Poovar, guided FML in the discovery of this reef.

The fishers whose lives revolve around this region fear that very soon that this marine rich habitat would soon be destroyed as part of the seaport construction, or fishing would become banned in the region for the same.

This reef habitat is free of ghostnets, a sign of how well the fishing communities around it have conserved it.
