മുളവറക്കല്ല് -2 (mulavarakkallu -2)

മുളവറക്കല്ല് ഒന്നിനോട് ചേർന്ന് കിഴക്കുഭാഗത്തായാണ് ഈ പാരിന്റെ സ്ഥാനം. അഞ്ചു മീറ്ററിൽ അധികം ഉയരം ഉണ്ട് ഇവിടുത്തെ കല്ലിന്. കോവളത്തെ ചിപ്പിതൊഴിലാളി സാംകുട്ടി ആണ് എഫ് എം എല്ലിന് ഇവിടം കാട്ടിത്തന്നത്. പത്തു വർഷങ്ങൾക്ക് മുമ്പ് ആദ്യമായി ഇവിടെ dive ചെയ്തപ്പോൾ ഈ പാര് നിറയെ snowflake coral എന്നയിനം soft coral ലുകൾ കൊണ്ട് നിറഞ്ഞിരുന്നുന്നതയ് കണ്ടു. ഇതൊരു invasive species ആണെന്നാണ് ശാസ്ത്ര ലോകത്തിന്റെ പൊതു ധാരണ. എന്നാൽ ഇപ്പോൾ അവിടെ ആയിനം കോറലുകൾ വളരെ കുറച്ച് ഇടങ്ങളിൽ മാത്രമേയുള്ളൂ.

This reef habitat lies close to the Mulavarakkallu - 1 on its eastern side. The rocky habitat is over 5m in height. FML came to know about this place through a mollusk-fisher in Kovalam, called Samkutty. 10 years ago, when we did our first dive here, the reef was filled with a type of soft coral called "Snowflake coral". The scientific community generally believes that this is an invasive species. But the presence of such types of corals have become lesser in this habitat now.
